Green Valley Classic

October 14, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 10:30 am

Let’s be honest, most of us grew up thinking that the Green Valley Loop was pretty much the pinnacle of trails. We rode lines we shouldn’t have. We tried to bomb it faster than any of our friends. And ultimately it became where we learned how to ride.

I for one think it needs a little appreciation.

Join the Alliance and Red Rock Bicycle Co. for the first annual Green Valley Classic. We’ll ride the loop, enjoying every last, stupid drop and then eat pancakes because that is what you do.

If you grew up riding mountain bikes in St. George in the 90s, you rode the Green Valley Loop. It was one of the few trails around and is still one of the most popular. The name has been changed. It turned into the Bear Claw Poppy Trail when the reserve was established and the trail was made official. Mile hill isn’t as rocky or rugged as it used to be and most people shuttle the loop or start from the bottom.

Just for old time’s sake, we’re gonna ride it the way we used to, starting at the Navajo Trailhead we will spin our way to the top on pavement and then bomb back to the bottom. And just because we love pancakes, we’re going to have pancakes waiting for us when we get done.

  • Meet at the Navajo Trailhead at 8 AM.
  • If you still have it, bring the bike you rode in the 90s.
  • Enjoy pancakes when we’re done.

Route Info:

Distance: 10.4 miles round trip

Trail Surface: About half paved and half dirt.

Speed: We will have multiple group leaders to ensure everyone has someone to ride with.

From the end of Navajo Drive we will begin pedaling on the pavement head up Navajo toward Bloomington Drive. Turning left on Bloomington, we will make it over to Tonaquint Drive and go left. We will continue on pavement to Dixie Drive and go left again. Dixie Drive will be our route until we make a left and go up one of the two big climbs, Canyon View Drive.

At the end of Canyon View is where we will hit some dirt dropping into the valley and proceeding up Mile Hill. Once at the top, head down the Bear Claw Poppy. We’ll be waiting for you at the bottom.

Pancakes? Yes there will be pancakes at the end.
