The Red Cliffs Recreation Area is a small canyon located northwest of St. George. The canyon has a small stream that runs through some of our iconic red cliffs. It is a popular day use area for swimming and hiking, but also has several designated campsites. Due to its proximity to town and the ability to pedal there almost entirely by dirt, it is a great, quick overnighter.
To use the most amount of dirt, and what is shown in the maps and gpx files, one has to link together several dirt roads and singletrack trails before ending at the Red Cliffs Campground.
From downtown St. George make your way to Pioneer Park.
From Pioneer Park, jump on T Bone and follow it to its terminus with the Turkey Farm Road.
Go left and ride a short section of pavement to reach the MIddleton Powerline which starts next to the water tower right off the pavement.
Follow the Powerline road to its end at Mill Creek. Go right.
Mill Creek will take you back toward Washington. Right before you hit the pavement turn left and follow the dirt road toward Grapevine.
Follow Grapevine to Prospector.
Prospector will take you all the way to the Red Cliffs Recreation Area.
When you hit pavement go left to get to the campground.
Once you are there...
Water is available and does not need to be filtered.
Camping is first come first serve and during the spring and fall, it does fill up quickly.
There are plenty of hiking and swimming option, bring your suit and some hiking shoes.
