Wire Mesa is the newest mesa in Washington county. Construction was completed in December 2016. The trail was designed and built through a partnership with the BLM and the Dixie Mountain Bike Trails Association.
The trail is by far the easiest mesa. There are a few A and B lines to keep you interested, but for the most part you will be able to take in the views while you pedal the 7.2 miles around the mesa.
From St. George,
Head North on I-15.
Take the Hurricane Exit #16.
Follow Highway 9 into Hurricane.
Turn right on Main St toward Highway 59.
Turn left on 100 S.
Follow Highway 59 past Apple Valley.
Turn left onto Smithsonian Butte Scenic Byway (There is a big sign for Gooseberry mesa).
Stay on this road passing the turn off to Gooseberry Mesa.
The turn off for the trail head is currently marked with a couple of pin flags. It will be on your left (sign will be installed in the next couple of weeks).
Riding the trail...
The trail is mostly singletrack that is easy to follow. The slickrock sections are marked with white dots. We enjoyed the loop best riding it clockwise. There are multiple A and B lines. Riding the loop clockwise, the harder lines are on the right. This trail was designed as an intermediate trail. It does have some features but the majority of the trail could be ridden by all but the most beginner of riders.
