Description

Yellow Knolls is a short, 2 mile trail that runs from the Turkey Farm road up to High Point trail/road. It has a variety of terrain including sand, slickrock, lava rock and singletrack.

Getting there...

From Red Rock Bicycle Co. head North on Bluff street. Turn right on St. George Boulevard. Turn left on 1000 East. Turn right on Red Hills Parkway. Turn left on Industrial Road. Turn left onto Red Rock Road. Red Rock Road will T with Turkey Farm Road, go left. As you leave the industrial area, you will enter the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve. Follow Turkey Farm Road as it turns to dirt. You will pass the Y where the old Turkey Farm used to be. Keep going until you come to the Yellow Knolls trail head. It is signed and their is a kiosk and big turn out for parking.

Riding the trail...

From the trail head, follow the singletrack as it drops toward the Yellow Knolls (the two reddish peaks in front of you). The trail will take you down into the wash where you will hit your first bout of sand. Keep going and you will go over some lava rock, more sand and then onto some sandstone. The trail will follow the wash for a ways and then head back out and toward the road. The trail will vary from sand to slickrock a few times as you make your way to the High Point trail/road. At this point you can turn around and follow Yellow Knolls back to the trailhead or you can turn left on High Point and ride it back up to Turkey Farm Road. Then turn left and follow the road back to the trailhead. We recommend doing it as an out and back as both directions are a blast.

hike-a-bike!?

December 28, 2015

Tried to do this ride this morning but didn't realize there is a 1/4-1/2 mile section that is hike-a-bike unless you're super skilled. As soon as you have the sandstone ("yellow knolls") on your right, expect to have to walk your bike. We didn't get passed this part so I can't say what the riding is like beyond this but are looking forward to going back. We've heard it's epic.
